Our paper titled "Experimental Analysis of Bandwidth Allocation in Automated Video Surveillance Systems" has been accepted for publiaction by ACM Multimedia 2017. Dr. Sarhan has been awarded a US Patent on the design of automated video surveillance systems. Dr. Sarhan is co-chairing the TPC of the 28th ACM SIGMM Workshop on Network and Operating System Support for Digital Audio and Video (NOSSDAV 2018). Dr. Sarhan has served as a panelist for IEEE SEM Humanitarian Technology Conference. Dr. Sarhan has served as a review panel chair for The National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment.
Dr. Sarhan received the Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University and the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering at Jordan University of Science and Technology.
Dr. Sarhan joined Wayne State University in 2003, where he is currently an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Director of Wayne State Multimedia Computing and Networking Research Laboratory. He served as the Graduate Program Director of Electrical and Computer Engineering during August 2011 and January 2013. Dr. Sarhan chaired the College of Engineering Faculty Assembly during August 2010 and July 2012.
Dr. Sarhan is an internationally recognized expert in multimedia systems and multimedia computing and networking and has published extensively in top venues. His research projects have been primarily sponsored by the National Science Foundation and Sun Microsystems. His main research areas are computers systems, computer networking, video streaming and communication, automated video surveillance, and energy-efficient systems.
Dr. Sarhan served as the Chair of the Interest Group on Media Streaming of the IEEE Multimedia Communication Technical Committee during 2012 and 2014 and as the Co-Director of the IEEE Multimedia Communication Technical Committee Review Board during 2010 and 2012. He has served as Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology and as a guest editor and a reviewer for prestigious journals and magazines. Dr. Sarhan has been involved in the organization of numerous international conferences in various capacities, including general chair, chair, technical program committee co-chair, publicity chair, track chair, session chair, and technical program committee number. In addition, he has participated as a panelist in major international conferences. Dr. Sarhan served as a panelist for the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Health and as a site review panelist for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
Dr. Sarhan has been awarded a US Patent on the design of Automated Video Surveillance Systems. He has served as a consulting expert in several patent infringement cases related to video streaming, involving major cellular networks, mobile operating systems makes, smartphone manufacturers, and media streaming companies. He has also served as a consulting expert in corporate litigation cases, involving IP addresses, anonymous e-mails, and secure multimedia products for medical applications.
Dr. Sarhan has been actively involved in curriculum development and in international educational activities, including serving as a chair/member of multiple review panels for university program accreditation.
Dr. Sarhan is the recipient of the IEEE SEM Outstanding Professional of the Year Award, the Wayne State University President's Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the College of Engineering Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Sarhan is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
