Dr. Hao Ying is a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Wayne State University.  He is also a Full Member at Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and a Researcher at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Detroit. Before joining WSU in 2000, he was on the faculty of The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, between 1992 and 2000, and was an Adjunct Associate Professor of the Biomedical Engineering Program at The University of Texas, Austin, Texas, between 1998 and 2000. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in May 1990, and the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Donghua University (formerly China Textile University), Shanghai, China, in February 1982 and June 1984, respectively.
Professor Ying has published one single-authored research monograph/advanced textbook entitled Fuzzy Control and Modeling: Analytical Foundations and Applications (IEEE Press, 2000, 342 pages; foreword by Professor Lotif A. Zadeh), which contains his own research results only. He has also published 90 peer-reviewed journal publications, and over 120 conference papers. He is serving as an Associate Editor or a Member of Editorial Board for 9 international journals. He is a member of the Fuzzy Systems Technical Committee of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and chairs its Task Force on Competitions. He is an elected board member of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society (NAFIPS). He served as Program Chair for The 2005 NAFIPS Conference as well as for The International Joint Conference of NAFIPS Conference, Industrial Fuzzy Control and Intelligent System Conference, and NASA Joint Technology Workshop on Neural Networks and Fuzzy Logic held in 1994. He served as the Publication Chair for the 2000 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and as a Program Committee Member for over 35 international conferences. He was invited to serve as reviewer for over 60 international journals, which are in addition to major international conferences, and book publishers. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
